Anxiety – That Worry Mind

Anxiety is something that many people experience and although the symptoms are generally the same, the reasons underpinning the anxiety can be vast.

Some of the factors that result in anxiety can be:

  • Lack of self esteem
  • Lack of self confidence
  • Suffering trauma / loss
  • Experience bullying
  • Financial difficulties
  • Relationship problems
  • Lack of self-value
  • Brought up in an unstable household
  • Long-term stress
  • A parent suffering anxiety/depression
  • Accident
  • Social Media

That Worry Mind

One of the main reasons people suffer anxiety is the inability to stop worrying.  Always worrying about the future and the worst case scenarios of what ‘might’ happen. Although in reality those worst case scenarios rarely happen.  In fact most of the time, people have pretty normal days.  But anxiety sufferers, in their attempt to feel safe, consider all the possibilities of what could go wrong and then don’t believe they can cope with those situations.

What anxiety sufferers fail to recognise is that they are capable and, in the very rare situation that something does go wrong, they will deal with it because that is what we humans do.  Humans are incredibly capable and resourceful.

That worry mind is part of our ‘inner voice’ that running commentary we have throughout the day.  It helps to re-train our inner voice into the positive.  Ask yourself “what’s the BEST that could happen?”  and always put a positive spin on situations.  That way you give the negative less and less energy.

It also helps to check in with ‘NOW’ – right now – are you ok?  Chances are you are absolutely fine. So when that worry mind starts to run away just, stop, take a breath and ask “how am I right now?”.  Chances are that you are fine and safe.

  1. Ask “What is the BEST that could happen?”.
  2. Remind yourself that you are capable and resourceful – much more than you give yourself credit for.
  3. Check in with ‘NOW’ – you are fine and safe.
