Working with Reflexes for Dyslexia – Testimonial

“Ann suggested Rhythmic Movement Training (RMT) to help my son, who has dyslexia, make improvements with his reading and writing.

RMT is a movement based system used to integrate our natural primitive and postural reflexes. By doing the specific movements, this has helped to improve my son’s neural pathways and stimulate new connections in his brain. We have been working for a total of 15 months.

At the initial assessment we discovered that my son’s coordination and core strength needed to be addressed. It was impossible for him to isolate certain muscle groups and he was generally quite wobbly. This was an eye opener for us as it was clear that this was affecting his hand-writing and coordination.

We started working with the daily exercises and saw Ann once a month. We put in some additional work ourselves to improve core strength and stability and we saw a massive improvement in hand writing, coordination and posture quite soon. We then continued to work on more subtle reflexes. It was a little more difficult to track the improvement in neural paths as a result of our work, as my son continued with his dyslexia support lessons, continued to mature and continued with his general tuition, which would have all helped. He did however catch up to his reading and writing age in English, which in turn helped with comprehension and written work in different subjects.

There has been a marked improvement in organisational skills and strategic/logical thinking, which removed a lot of frustration and generally made my son a happier student.

The daily exercises were finished in about 5 minutes and really not cumbersome. In my son’s words: “less of a chore than filling the dishwasher”.

The monthly sessions with Ann were in my son’s view “fun and relaxed”. He is convinced the work has helped his coordination and school results and surprisingly also his Everest Wall Climb; “I couldn’t help but think these were the same movements as we had practiced with Ann” he said.

Additional Information:

In RMT, the consultant assesses and then directs the process to make the connections within the brain covering the various individual aspects that can lead to reading, writing and language challenges. These individual aspects include:

  • Muscle tone which aids posture
  • Processing of information

  • Auditory processing
  • Fine motor abilities

RMT can help with many issues including behaviourial, OCD, postural, co-ordination, ADD, ADHD, dyspraxia, anxiety, insecurity and many other issues.  There is no age limit to using helping with these issues, therefore if you are an adult with reading and writing (or other issue) please get in touch.
