Are you someone that has to fix the world or ensure that everyone else is happy before you consider your own needs and wants? If the answer is “yes” then there will be reasons connected to your personal belief system and events in your life that have resulted in your actions that are potentially damaging your health.
What Are The First Signs Of My Health Being Damaged?
Different signs may show on different people but commonly those noted below are early signs of the problems to come:
- Feeling exhausted
- Difficulty sleeping
- Clouded thinking
- Overly emotional
- Difficulty concentrating
- Weak immunity
- Niggley health problems occurring
- Feeling like you can’t go on
- Lack of desire to take part in things
- Racing heart or palpitations
- Gastrointestinal Issues including I.B.S.
- Unhealthy eating habits
Long Term Effects
If you continue with your ways of putting everyone first, the above issues will get worse and could result in depression, chronic illness and many other health issues. In time they can effect your personal life, social life and work life.
What Is ‘Your’ Responsibility In Life?
Have you ever considered that question? Having helped many people overcome fatigue, health issues, anxiety, depression and other issues; I take the stance that we are firstly responsible for ourselves and also, if we have children, naturally we have a responsibility towards them as we bring them up.
If you think you are responsible for anyone else, then have a good think about it. There may be a few exceptions such as a sibling with health problems or elderly parent but outside of that are you taking responsibility for too many people?
Every single person in life has their journey and that will include great experiences and traumas but these are for them to experience – to learn from and to grow from – if you are propping them up – you may be denying them the opportunity to use the resources they have available to them to make positive changes. The way to empowerment is to take action. Give them an opportunity to be empowered and take action for themselves. Often we don’t know how amazing we are until we are given an opportunity to find out.
Are You A People Pleaser?
Often it is the people pleasers who try to resolve everyone else’s problems. They don’t like to see others upset or struggling. This is a need in ‘you’ to sort things for others. There will be reasons behind your people pleasing most likely to due events in the past or things people have said to you.
The Pain Of The Empath
If you are an empath you are feeling ‘your pain’ in ‘their situation’. You cannot know for sure how they are feeling. Being an empath is wonderful but distracting and tiring. Just know that you are feeling ‘your pain’, you cannot feel their pain. Feeling ‘your pain’ helps no one because it just adds more ‘pain’. Let it go, in times of others’ struggles send them love, that’s what they need for their pain.
Is It Your Need To Be Needed?
Being needed by others may be fulfilling a need within you. Consider how you could feel more fulfilled by doing something for yourself such as taking up a hobby, spending quality time with family, being creative or doing charity work.
If you need to be needed then this will also most likely link in with your belief system. At some point being needed made you feel good and you spend the rest of your life trying to get that feeling again.
How To Make Changes
- Take a step back. Don’t be so available. Don’t respond to every contact and at times tell them you are just not available.
- Mobile phones make us far too available. Don’t be stuck to your mobile phone or at times put it on silent so you don’t hear every notification – believe me…it’s refreshing.
- Suggest people that they could speak to who are more qualified to help them with aspects of their problem. If they don’t follow that through then don’t keep propping them up because the cycle only continues.
- Don’t be the one that allows them to fuel their own negativity or problems without finding solutions. Sometimes people enjoy being stuck in their problems.
- Make time for you – you might just enjoy it!
- Do simple things in life – get fresh air, do yoga or meditate, have a spa day.
- By all means be a good friend but know what is good for your health and well-being.
