If cigarettes were invented now, do you think they would be legal? Probably not, and yet they still are legal. They have supplied the governments with a source of income and been part of sponsorship of large events over the years although there are rules and regulations around tobacco advertising.
The subject of cigarettes is becoming confused with the invention of e-cigarettes and patches. Smokers are not really sure if they are better off with the actual cigarette or the alternative. Sometimes becoming addicted to patches or hearing reports that e-cigs may be bad for your health too. So for many there comes a time to stop.
In your teens and perhaps early 20’s smoking seemed like a cool thing to do. Perhaps all your friends were smoking and you didn’t want to be the odd one out, or you wanted to rebel or you thought you looked cool or intelligent or more mature with a cigarette in hand. You get to your 30’s and you start regretting that decision, it doesn’t look cool any more. Most of your friends don’t smoke and your partner hates the fact you smoke. Your health is beginning to suffer and the early signs of ageing are taking effect.
I find myself wanting to tell teenagers who are clearly too young to smoke not to because they will regret it once they are hooked but I doubt my plea would be successful at that time. The important thing is to stop when you desire to stop. When contacted about smoking cessation, I tell my prospective client as long as they want to stop – then come and see me.
Smoking carries different attachments for people and this is why working with the subconscious mind – the part of your mind that is keeping you addicted to cigarettes – is a great way to resolve the issue. People ‘think’ they are addicted to the nicotine but that is just not true. I have had 40 a day smokers walk out of my studio to never smoke another cigarette – if they were addicted to the nicotine how would that be possible? The nicotine is out of your system in just 48 hrs. Your body can then start the regeneration process to heal the damaged cells and you can breathe fresh air again.
“I just wanted to say thank you for helping me to stop smoking.
I feel really positive about it and completely different to when I have tried to stop in the past. I went out at the weekend for some drinks at a friends house and it’s like the smoking part of my brain isn’t there anymore. A few of my friends went out for a cigarette and I went with them but smoking didn’t even factor in it for me, I had no emotion about it either way which was really surprising. I can’t really articulate it very well but the best way I can explain it is that when I am in a situation where I would usually crave a cigarette its like I am trying to recall a dream but nothing is coming back to me, like a blank spot in my memory.” Anon
