A fear of heights can be distressing and, for some people, impact their everyday life. Like most fears and phobias the level of severity can differ from one person to the next. A fear of heights can affect people when they are doing what seem to be every day tasks for some. Walking down steps or going down escalators, going for a walk on the cliffs, being in high buildings and even some television programmes can trigger that fear and therefore the associated physical response. Holidays can be impacted as the thought of a chairlift, being on a boat, in an aeroplane or going up a mountain is out of the question.
People often come to me with a fear of heights when it reaches the point that it is impacting their life quite considerably or when it starts to impact that family. There is also often concern about their fear rubbing off on their children as they observe that fearful/panic response.
“Amazing…Wow! Just been over the Ile de Re bridge and I was actually not just ok but found it really enjoyable!!! I have been using the relaxation technique since I saw you. Suddenly saw bridge but was able to say how stunning it looked and as we went through toll gates I immediately felt chilled and knew I was going to be ok. As we drove up it I was able to not only look around but really enjoy the view too. No nerves at all!
Thank you so much – my husband and son were completely shocked by the transformation as 7 or 8 years ago we had to turn round as I had such a panic attack at the thought of going over it!“
Overcoming The Fear
Hypnotherapy and other modalities that I use have helped many people overcome their fear of heights. The subconscious is very powerful and always trying to protect you. This means if your amazing subconscious mind spots danger, then you will be put on alert and the fear is triggered no matter how much your logical mind knows there is nothing to worry about. Your subconscious mind kicks in at the speed of light often before your conscious mind has even recognised anything to be fearful of.
Hypnotherapy is used to make the necessary changes within the subsconcious mind. It is a lovely relaxing experience. You remain in control but it feels like your stress button has been turned off so you can relax and use the power of your subconscious to make the changes you are seeking.
